Protesters in Iran have attacked Italy's embassy
Protesters in Iran have attacked Italy's embassy.

The protests turned hostile as the crowd shouted slogans against Italian premier Silvio Berlusconi, who announced in Israel last week that Italy would scale back its economic dealings with Iran.

While protesters threw stones and fruit at the Italian embassy, none of them managed to get inside due to police action.

During the demonstration, police became concerned the crowd would storm the building after they started chanting the word "takeover."

In 1979, students took over the US Embassy.

University students also gathered at the gates of the French and Italian embassies to express their anger at what they said was support for Iran's opposition movement.

After the incident, the Iranian Foreign Ministry summoned the Italian ambassador to protest Berlusconi's remarks.

Iranian protesters angered by Italian pronouncement

All was quiet in the western front. Until Mr. Berlusconi started to associate himself with Israel. Infact he claimed that he wished he was a jew.

At the sametime Mr. Berlusconi started to talk against Iran, and justified the last conquist that Israel had, where many innocent people lost their lives through the use of cluster bombs against the Palestine people.

I do believe that if Mr. Berlusconi had not promoted his views, favoring the jews, and justifying Israel’s indiscriminate killing of the Palestine people. Surely this would not have happened.

And I believe that all of the Italian people, do not share Mr. Berlusconi’s views. Because the Italian people are a peace loving people who mind their own business and do not meddle in other people’s domestic affairs.

It is time that Italy, starts to elect responsible people who represent the will of the Italian people. Where in the past 15 years there have been nothing but chaous and needless debates to protect Mr. Berlusconi, from being brought to justice to face his accusers for his presumed accusations.

Let us do not forget that Italy is a democracy. Where the law is equal for all. Rich, poor, as well as for politicians, who think that they are above the law.

It’s agreed that Berlusconi is a dumb ass, but my opinion is that he is making the first move in this game of chess between the Iranian Government & the West & it’s Allies. See, You kick sand in their eyes, they have a camel spit at you, & B4 you know it, we fightin...Hey, we gotta do what we gotta do to stop their nuclear intensions. MOTIVATED DRILL SGT! HOOORAAA!!! LOCK & LOAD!

Mr. Berlusconi

I do not really understand, why these posts are so negative. One may not like him, because of his lifestyle, but he is entitled to his opinions. He is just a premier and only parliament will determine any trade sanctions, otherwise it is business as usual. Most countries have been discussing trade sanctions against Iran.
If the Iranianan Government permits the slogan “death to America and death to the Jews”, when they meddle in Syrian Iraqi and Lebanese affairs, when they are also active in Afghanistan, than Mr Berlusconi should at least be entitled to free speech vis a vis these Iranian thugs.

Yes free speech

02-10-10, 02:55 PM I agree with you, that Mr. Berlusconi should be allowed free speech.

But coincidently in Italy, Mr. Berlusconi’s political party which he represents, has a majority, and it seems that with this majority, his political party has promoted laws which will excempt him from facing justice, for his presumed accusations. He keeps on preaching that all the judges are communist, and are against him. And now he has declared that he has no time to present himself to face his accusers in a court of law. Because he is too bussy to run his government, which he has been elected to do.

But in any other democratic country, when a leader is accused, he automatically resigns and faces his accusers in a court of law, instead of making, and trying to promote laws that will keep him in office, and will be excempt from facing justice.

This my friend, is what it is happening in Italy. And this way the law will not be equal for all.

It has been 15 years that the country has been under the spell of Mr. Berlusconi and his legal problems. At the sametime many important reforms have been delayed, and have not been done. While his financial empire has made great economic progress. And many people are suffering the economic consequences, high unemployment, anti-trust laws being abused, corruption has increased, and it seems that the tax burden has been shifted to the poor citizen. Infact, italy is becoming a two class nation. The very rich, and the very poor. While Mr. Berlusconi is still fighting with the judges, whom he believes that they are persecuting him, and want to destroy his self made kingdom.

Since, Mr. Berlusconi should be entitles to free speech. I believe I Sammy, should be given the same privilide to express my views. Don’t you think.

Dear Sammy

Thank you Sammy for that post. I fully agree with you and I know that Berlusconi is like a playboy, but the Italian political process must flush him out. After all Italy is a democracy and the people that voted him in will hopefully vote this clown out.

So, Italy will stop shipments of olive oil and pizza to Iran, eh? So what? I’ll have a large seafood, two small hawaiian and one vegetarian pizza, please. And hold the anchovies - they smell like Berlusconi’s ethics.

The Iranian Guard are battle harden outfit like the Gestapo of WW2 Germany. Well paid and well trained.
