KALIBO, Aklan, Sept. 20 (PIA6) -- The National Food Authority (NFA) here is ready to buy from farmers clean and dry palay with 14 percent moisture content at P19.00 per kilogram.
NFA-Aklan Provincial Manager Josephine Venus Castillo, in an interview over a local radio station here, also assured Aklan farmers that the food agency is buying too, wet palay or "eabtong" with 30 percent moisture content at P14 per kilogram from farmer cooperatives.
Individual farmers can also sell their produce for a maximum of 200 bags to the NFA.
Aklan farmers or cooperatives can bring their palay directly to the NFA warehouse at Linabuan Sur, Banga, Aklan, or the NFA could go to their respective areas to buy their produce provided they notify the NFA earlier and show their sample of palay grains, according to Castillo.
The palay-buying activity of the NFA aims to lower retail price of rice and to maintain its local palay buying operations.
Meanwhile, she assured Aklanons that NFA-Aklan has enough stocks of imported rice in the warehouse, which now sold at P27.00 per kilogram.
Stocks of locally-produced palay are also available at the warehouse, ready for milling.
She said the imported rice is safe for human consumption, with stocks only targeted to stay until October 10, 2019, thereafter, these will be replaced with local produce. (JBG/VGV/PIA6 Aklan)
