BUENOS AIRES, Sept. 23 (Xinhua) -- The battle of more than 400 firefighters against the forest fires raging in the central Argentine province of Cordoba on Wednesday entered into the second day.
Nine aircrafts, including planes and helicopters, were helping to douse the flames from above in Las Jarillas, Bosque Alegre and Villa Giardino, in the Punilla Valley, official sources said.
"The danger index for the forest fires to develop is extreme," the province's Ministry of Security warned, calling on "the population to take the pertinent precautions and respect the instructions of the authorities."
Due to low visibility caused by the smoke, part of a provincial roadway was closed to traffic.
For the moment, firefighters have managed to save residences near the fires from the flames.
The National Meteorological Service has forecast probable rain in the affected area but not until Friday or Saturday.
