BEIJING, Oct. 29 (Xinhua) -- The following are the updates on the global fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.

NEW DELHI -- India's COVID-19 tally surpassed the 8-million mark on Thursday, reaching 8,040,203, according to the latest data released by the federal health ministry.

As many as 49,881 new COVID-19 cases were registered across the country over the past 24 hours.

BUENOS AIRES -- Argentina on Wednesday reported 345 more deaths from COVID-19, pushing the national tally to 30,071, according to the Ministry of Health.

The ministry also reported 13,924 new COVID-19 cases, bringing the nationwide count to 1,130,533 with 931,147 recoveries.

WASHINGTON -- A senior officer in the U.S. Space Force has tested positive for COVID-19, the U.S. Air Force said in a statement Wednesday.

"General David D. Thompson, Vice Chief of Space Operations, tested positive today for COVID-19. He took the test today after learning that a close family member, with whom he had contact, tested positive for the virus," the statement said. "In accordance with established COVID policies, General Thompson is self-quarantining and working remotely from home."

BUENOS AIRES -- Argentine President Alberto Fernandez on Wednesday called on the state, workers and business owners to join forces to overcome the economic challenges caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.

"It is time for us to understand that what we have to do is to work together -- the state, those who work and those who invest," he said.

MEXICO CITY -- The death toll from the novel coronavirus in Mexico has reached to 90,309 on Wednesday with 495 more deaths during the past 24 hours, the Health Ministry said.

The country has also registered 5,595 new infections, taking the total tally of COVID-19 cases to 906,863.
