Sao Paulo 'already adapting' to new manager Crespo

RIO DE JANEIRO, March 3 (Xinhua) -- Sao Paulo is adapting quickly to the coaching philosophy of new manager Hernan Crespo, striker Pablo Teixeira said on Wednesday.

After a 1-1 draw with Botafogo-SP in Crespo's first match as manager on Sunday, Sao Paulo won 4-0 at Internacional de Limeira in the Paulista championship on Wednesday.

"The team deserves to be congratulated on the victory. We are already identifying what Crespo wants, which requires a little more work," said Teixeira, a former Real Madrid Castilla striker.

"Of course it is still very early. He's only been on the job for a week but everyone is already adapting and understanding. We played the way he wants us to, with quick touches and fast transitions," added Teixeira who scored Sao Paulo's second goal of the match.

Crespo will have several weeks to instill his ideals in Sao Paulo's squad before the club's major 2021 commitments begin. The Copa Libertadores - South America's equivalent of the UEFA Champions League - will start its group stage on April 20 while the Brazilian Serie A will not kick off until May 30.

Crespo became Sao Paulo's top choice to replace Fernando Diniz as manager after he led Defensa y Justicia to the Copa Sudamericana title - their first international trophy - in January. The 45-year-old previously had spells in charge of Modena and Banfield.

As a player, Crespo was capped 64 times for Argentina in a career that included stints with River Plate, Parma, Lazio, Inter Milan, Chelsea, AC Milan, and Genoa.
