BUENOS AIRES, April 5 (Xinhua) -- Boca Juniors have emerged as frontrunners to sign outgoing Manchester United goalkeeper Sergio Romero, according to Argentine press reports.
Romero's contract at Old Trafford expires in June and Boca are preparing to woo the 34-year-old with an offer of a two-year contract, news outlet Ole reported on Monday.
It added that the Buenos Aires giants face competition for Romero's signature from Brighton and Inter Miami.
Romero, a long-time understudy to David de Gea, has become Manchester United's third-choice goalkeeper this season following the arrival of Dean Henderson.
Reports said the Argentina international is interested in returning to his homeland but that his preference is to join Racing Club, where he began his professional career in 2006.
