BUENOS AIRES, April 7 (Xinhua) -- A second wave of COVID-19 infections in Argentina "is already a fact," so people should be extremely careful, Health Minister Carla Vizzotti has warned.
Argentina registered 20,870 new COVID-19 cases on Tuesday, bringing the national tally to 2,428,029, according to the country's ministry of health.
The ministry also reported 163 more deaths from the disease, taking the nationwide death toll to 56,634.
The health minister highlighted the country's vaccination plan against COVID-19 launched on Dec. 29, with 90 percent of health personnel already receiving one dose of the vaccine, while 60 percent have received their second dose.
Meanwhile, 55.6 percent of people aged over 80 years old have received at least one dose under the inoculation scheme, while 40.7 percent of people between 70 and 79 years old have received their first dose.
Since the vaccination program began in December 2020, a total of 699,598 people have received both doses of the COVID-19 vaccine, while another 3,816,236 have received the first jab.
