BUENOS AIRES, July 28 (Xinhua) -- Argentina Wednesday reported 15,883 new COVID-19 cases and 471 more deaths in the past day, raising its accumulated caseload to 4,891,810 and its pandemic death toll to 104,822.
According to the Ministry of Health, 98,390 tests were done to detect COVID-19 in the 24-hour period, with a positivity rate of 16.14 percent.
Minister of Health Carla Vizzotti said Argentina was "within the 20 (countries) that received the most vaccines" against the disease, and health policies helped to keep the new Delta variant at bay.
The South American country has applied nearly 31 million vaccines since Dec. 29, with close to 24.5 million people receiving a single dose and more than 6.5 million receiving both doses.
Argentina is now preparing to vaccinate adolescents between the age of 12 and 17 with underlying health conditions that make them vulnerable to COVID-19, such as diabetes, obesity and chronic respiratory diseases.
