BUENOS AIRES, May 14 (Xinhua) -- Midfielder Alan Varela converted the decisive penalty as Boca Juniors reached the final of the first stage of Argentina's Primera Division with a 6-5 shootout victory over Racing Club on Saturday.
The match was forced into penalties after neither side scored in the allotted 90 minutes at Ciudad de Lanus, on the southern outskirts of Buenos Aires.
Sebastian Villa, Dario Benedetto, Guillermo Fernandez, Carlos Izquierdoz and Marcos Rojo hit the target in the shootout while Eduardo Salvio was the only Boca player to squander his chance.
Enzo Copetti and Emiliano Insua missed with Racing's fifth and seventh attempts before Varela held his nerve to earn Boca a place in the tournament decider.
Boca Juniors will meet the winner of the other semifinal between Tigre and Argentinos Juniors on Sunday.
