BUENOS AIRES, June 25 (Xinhua) -- River Plate climbed to fourth in Argentina's Primera Division standings on Saturday with a 2-1 home win over Lanus.
Jose Paradela and Braian Romero gave the hosts a 2-0 lead inside the first 33 minutes before Lautaro Acosta reduced the deficit with a 35th-minute strike.
The result at the Monumental stadium catapulted River to fourth in the 28-team standings with eight points from five matches, five points behind leaders Newell's Old Boys. Lanus fell to 18th, eight points off the pace.
Earlier on Saturday, Newell's secured their third consecutive victory by beating Estudiantes 2-0 away from home. Ramiro Sordo and Juan Fernando Garro struck second half goals for the visitors, who now have a two-point lead over second-placed Gimnasia.
In other Primera Division fixtures on Saturday, Velez Sarsfield drew 1-1 at Defensa y Justicia, Central Cordoba prevailed 2-0 at Talleres Cordoba and Huracan won 1-0 at Colon.
