BUENOS AIRES, Sept. 18 (Xinhua) -- River Plate remained in touch with Argentina's Primera Division leaders on Sunday with a 1-0 away victory over San Lorenzo.

Emanuel Mammana struck the winner just before halftime with a first-time effort from 22 yards following an errant defensive clearance.

The visitors were forced to endure a tense final 20 minutes after Marcelo Herrera was sent off for a bad foul on Malcom Braida, an offense that earned him a second yellow card.

But Marcelo Gallardo's men survived to claim their ninth win of the campaign and move to within four points of leaders Gimnasia. San Lorenzo are 12th in the 28-team standings with 27 points.

In other Primera Division fixtures on Sunday, Racing Club won 1-0 at Platense, Talleres Cordoba earned a 2-0 home victory over Colon, Lanus won 2-1 at Banfield and Tigre prevailed 2-0 at home to Velez Sarsfield.
