HAIKOU, China, Dec. 4 (Xinhua) -- Wuhan Three Towns smashed Cangzhou Mighty Lions 4-0 to stay on top of the table ahead of defending champions Shandong Taishan, while Wu Lei's penalty helped Shanghai Port beat Guangzhou City 2-1 in the 2022 Chinese Super League (CSL) on Sunday night.
After assisting teammate Davidson to score in the 43rd minute, Nicolae Stanciu scored just three minutes later to double Wuhan's lead in the first half.
Marcao scored another in the 51st minute, and Deng Hanwen's left-foot shot from a Davidson cross sealed the 4-0 victory for Wuhan.
With the victory, Wuhan stays atop of the league with 68 points, three ahead of Shandong, who has one game in hand.
After several saved attempts, 25-year-old Argentinian center Matias Vargas netted a header from Wu Lei with a skilful shot to put Shanghai 1-0 ahead in the 39th minute.
However, Guangzhou levelled the score in the next minute, when Wen Yongjun's powerful shot deflected off Shanghai's 18-year-old defender Wang Yiwei into the net. Five minutes later, Wu converted a penalty on the stroke of halftime to make it 2-1 to Shanghai.
After the win, Shanghai climbed to fourth in the table with 52 points, overhauling Chengdu Rongcheng by one point.
Elsewhere on Sunday, Erik's goal in the opening minute put Changchun Yatai ahead, but Xu Dong equalized for Wuhan Yangtze River in the 45th minute for the 1-1 draw between the two sides in the bottom half of the table.
