RIO DE JANEIRO, April 22 (Xinhua) -- Former Brazil national team boss Mano Menezes has been appointed manager of Gremio for the rest of the Brazilian Serie A season.

Menezes replaces Gustavo Quinteros, who was sacked last week after the club's third straight top-flight defeat. It will be the 62-year-old's second spell in charge of the Porto Alegre club, having also been at the helm from 2005 to 2007.

"I'm proud to be back here after 20 years," Menezes told reporters on Tuesday. "It has been a long time coming. I'm eager to start working with dedication and commitment, and I hope to be able to meet the expectations that have been placed on me."

Menezes, who led Brazil's national team from 2010 to 2012, has been out of work since parting ways with Fluminense in March.

His first game in charge will be an away clash against Argentina's Godoy Cruz in the Copa Sudamericana on Thursday.
